Welcome

Ha Tinh's first VTTN workshop

Dear Readers

Welcome to another edition of English Now. We've had a lot of very positive response to the last edition which included new features on primary VTTN and a special section on the 2nd National VTTN ELT Conference. I hope that this issue will be as equally stimulating and useful and we've added a couple of new regular features.

Since the last publication many of you have attended a VTTN workshop in one of the 20 provinces under the VTTN programme around the country. These were a huge success and a great opportunity for you to make new friends and improve your teaching skills. We have included a lot of the ideas from these workshops on "Promoting Classroom Communication" inside this edition. For example, there are tips on how to give clear instructions, setting up effective pairwork, classroom language for teachers and sample activities taken from the new Grade 10 Tieng Anh text book. Once again, Bao Kham and Tran Lam Son have done an excellent job of compiling and editing all the workshop materials.

Primary VTTN continues with an article from another trainer-in- training and some useful pronunciation activities taken from the Primary Teachers' Club workshops in Hanoi.

This issue of English Now sees the end of Bang On. In its place will be a lively VTTN News page with information on past and future events, what VTTN members are up to and little titbits of VTTN gossip!

Another new feature is Dear Language Doctor. We get numerous letters from readers asking for advice on language problems and I'm sure that these are problems shared by many of you. Dear Language Doctor will give you an opportunity to ask about, for example, grammar, pronunciation or general teaching problems you have. The best of these letters will be printed in English Now with sound advice from our very own language doctor.

If you are new to English Now, don't forget that you can read all our back issues

Finally a big 'thank you' to the contributors to this edition and for all your continued support and encouragement!
