It's a family affair
Earlier this summer we were delighted to
discover two generations of VTTN members under the same roof! Quang
Tri Coordinator Mr Nguyen Dinh Hanh and his son, English teacher and
participant, Mr Nguyen Ho Hong Thai. With this kind of involvement
and interest in the VTTN, the future of our network can enjoy a long
and prosperous future.
As the expressions
go: 'like father, like son', 'keep it in the family and 'chip off
the old block' - being similar to the parent. He likes teaching too. Thai's a chip off the old block. This phrase originates from
carpentry!
...and congratulations to Mr Nguyen Dinh Thanh Lam
from Soc Trang on being awarded the Hornby Trust Scholarship for
2005/6. He left for the UK on 30th September and we all wish him
luck and success with his studies at Lancaster University. Don't
forget to write a letter to us from England Mr. Lam, telling us all
your new!

VTTN Planing Meeting in Hanoi The
long hot VTTN summer
On behalf of the
British Council, we would like to say a big 'thank you' to everyone
involved in the last round of workshops. They were indeed a great
success and this is down to the dedication of ALL our members.
Special mentions go to coordinators and trainers in all the new
provinces. Great job and long may we continue.
In Ha long Bay in
July, the weather became way way too hot for toiling away at the
workshop, so at 4.30p.m. VTTN members could be seen sprinting
headlong into the cool currents of the Bien Dong sea. Ah, what a
relief! Which VTTN trainers can you see in the picture? Two of the
boys are also the sons of visiting trainer Tran My Quang from Thai
Nguyen.
Cambridge Teacher
Knowledge Test (TKT) Courses
In April 2005 in Ho
Chi Minh City, 95 VNU English teachers took part in Vietnam's very
first intensive TKT courses leading to an internationally recognised
qualification in teaching. Very encouragingly, ALL candidates passed
the test and 40% got top marks! Following on from this success, the
British Council Hanoi is now running the second of these courses and
candidates from Hanoi VTTN will sit their exams on 19th November.
Good luck to all involved!
Primary ELT
Conference June 2005
ELT specialists from
25 provinces, along with primary experts from the Ministry of
Education and Training, the UK and Indonesia, attended a two-day
conference in Hanoi jointly organised by MoET and the British
Council to discuss the current situation of English language
teaching at primary level in Vietnam. Issues included textbooks,
teaching materials, teacher education and teaching methodology. The
Ministry of Education and Training is committed to policy reform in
primary English language teaching and the future looks bright.
