Without skilled and effective trainers, VTTN would not be the success it is today. In recognition of this, this year we are committed to developing the skills of our trainers and will be organising a week-long Trainer Training Workshop for 22 trainers from the 11 new provinces in Hanoi in June 2006. We hope that you notice some new and improved training skills in the workshops in July!
Earlier this year a number of trainers attended
workshops and conferences to improve their skills and
knowledge. What did they do? How will this benefit
VTTN? Read on to find out!
In January 2006, Lam Son, from Nghe An and Nguyen Thi Lan, from Can Tho attended an ELTeCS workshop and the Thai TESOL conference in Chang Mai, Thailand. For more information about ELTeCs have a look at the Resources on page 26. This is what Son says about the workshop:
“The ELTeCs East Asia Networking Workshop
started on a nice sunny Chiang Mai morning in
January. The workshop facilitators from the
Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Hungary ensured
the whole team of 16 participants from different
countries (9 from Thailand, 2 from the Philippines, 1
from Indonesia, 4 from Vietnam) got to know each
other better. This was the theme of the workshop
“networking”, and over the 3 days we found out
more about the concepts and significance of
ELTeCS and networking activities in general. For a
network to succeed it needs to be built on the
power of collective thoughts, voluntary devotion
and mutual trust. This has been the case with VTTN
so far, but it still needs to develop more strength in
the future. As well as networking, we also looked at
how to write effective project proposals and since
the end of the workshop, we have been preparing
different projects to get ELTeCs funding for trainer
training workshops on classroom research, testing
and evaluation, and material adaptation. If they are
successful and accepted, a great number of VTTN
trainers and teachers will be invited to take part in
and contribute to these events.
The whole experience was wonderful – both the
professional, personal and cultural networking that
we experienced during the workshop, at the
ThaiTESOL conference and during the delicious
meals and trips around beautiful Chang Mai.”
In March this year Quang Ninh, Quang Tri, Phu Tho and
Vung Tau hosted meetings for all school principals and
Heads of English in their province. Presentations were
given by the Director and Deputy Directors of the
British Council and senior directors from the Ministry of
Education and Training. Through these meetings we
want your school principals to understand and accept
the changes in methodology and classroom
management that VTTN brings, and to support your
efforts in bringing creativity and communication into
your classes.
