Dear Readers

It seems a long time ago now, but I hope you all had a restful summer holiday. For me, this summer was quite a shock. When I returned to the UK for a few weeks, looking forward to some respite from the heat in Vietnam, it was as hot there as it had been in Hanoi! So much for the stereotypical British weather!

Taking time out from their holiday, the VTTN team were in action again across the country delivering workshops to a total of 800 teachers on the topic ”Making Grammar Communicative”. The aim of these workshops was to raise awareness of the importance of real communication in a grammar lesson and to give teachers ideas for communicative practice in the context of large classes and the new Tieng Anh 10 textbook.

Inside this issue you will find even more pages on practical teaching ideas taken from the workshops, along with our regular features ‘Dear Language Doctor’ and ‘Primary VTTN’.

This year VTTN has focused more on training up our trainers and a number of these trainers have taken part in courses and conferences, both locally and in the region. You can read all about these events in ‘VTTN News’.

As well as our VTTN Quiz, there is an opportunity for you to win a prize by sending in your comments about English Now magazine. This is the 13th edition of English Now and we’d like to hear from you. Are we getting it right? What would you like to see more/less of? This is your chance to make a difference so please do have a look at the questions on page 16 and send in your comments.

If you would like to read previous editions of English Now, you’ll find all 13 editions on our website

Finally, thanks go to the editing team,
Bao Kham and Tran Lam Son, who continue to do a great job.
