Welcome

The British Council VTTN team

It's time for Issue 4 of the VTTN newsletter. Hello and welcome! It hardly seems possible that two years have passed since VTTN activities began. We are about to enter our third year, and I am happy to report that the network is in very good shape. The last six months have been extremely busy and extremely worthwhile.

In November, we began a programme of expansion which saw Yen Bai and Binh Dinh join VTTN as full members - bringing the total number of provinces in the network to ten. A very warm welcome to all of you in our new provinces.

In December, a very fruitful and enjoyable planning meeting and trainer training workshop took place in Hanoi. At this meeting key VTTN members planned the February and March provincial workshops and exchanged ideas and experiences from their teacher training work.

February and March saw VTTN workshops with the title "Grammatically Speaking" take place in nine provinces (Thanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Yen Bai, Da Nang, Nghe An and Nam Dinh). 360 participants were invited to attend, not only from the member provinces listed above, but also from the neighbouring provinces of Tien Giang, Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dak Lak, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Thai Binh and Bac Ninh. So nearly one third of all Vietnam's 61 provinces were represented. Thanks to all of you for your hard work and enthusiasm. Without this the workshops could not have succeeded.

The network is developing well. Over the last two years VTTN trainers and co-ordinators have gained significant experience of teacher training events. They are becoming more and more confident and more and more autonomous. This progress was noticeable at the February and March workshops. VTTN trainers were increasingly taking responsibility for the planning and delivery of workshop sessions. This is an important step, as it will guarantee the future of VTTN as an organisation run by homegrown ELT professionals. In their hands, the future of VTTN looks wonderfully bright.
We are all now looking forward with relish to the VTTN summer programme which begins in June. We hope to see a large number of you again and we look forward to working with you.

We hope you enjoy reading the newsletter. Happy teaching!
