ELTeCS workshop in
The Philippines
At the end of February, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong from Hue and Ms. Cao
Thi Thuy from Vinh attended the ELTeCS regional workshop, 'Profiling the
ELT Teacher Trainer', in Manila as representatives of VTTN. Teacher trainers
from the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, the UK
and Hungary met to discuss trainer training and to develop the skills
teacher educators need in their everyday work.
This is what Ms. Minh
Huong had to say about the event:
"The workshop has helped me to see the relationships between the
different layers involved in language teaching: the learner, the teacher,
the teacher trainer and the trainer trainer. Seeing this helps me when
working with teachers as a teacher trainer…The workshop brought
together trainers from different countries in the region and this was
a good chance for us to share and learn from expertise of others…The
workshop was of great value to us…"
Resource books and
computers for provinces
There is a set of VTTN resource books in each province. These cover many
aspects of teaching, from theory and methodology to practical classroom
activity books covering all four skills. The British Council under the
VTTN programme has also donated computers to the following provinces:
Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh and Thai Nguyen.
These should be available for VTTN trainers and members to use. Please
contact your local co-ordinator for further information.
VTTN goes international
Interest in VTTN has reached beyond Vietnam, as a recent article in the
EL Gazette, one of the world's leading ELT publications shows. It says,
'[VTTN]…has grown into a fully fledged part of upper secondary English
teaching in Vietnam' 'the eagerness to teach and learn English bodes well
for the future of the English language teaching profession in Vienam.'
