Welcome

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to this edition of English Now - the
seventh issue of the VTTN magazine. I am happy to tell you that you are one of around 3000 readers from across Vietnam and beyond!

I've been with the British Council in Vietnam for more than two years now. In that time, I have met literally hundreds of teachers from around the country and received letters from many more. There is one thing that all these
teachers have in common - a real enthusiasm for their work and a genuine desire to develop as teachers. This is a very exciting time to be an English teacher in Vietnam - there are so many positive changes happening. With so many energetic and dedicated English teaching professionals, I am certain that these changes will make a lasting difference to the quality of education that Vietnamese students receive.

Vietnam's English Teacher and Trainer Network has been running for more than three years now. In that time, more than 1500 teachers have taken part in network events. In June, to mark the three year point in the programme, we held a meeting of key VTTN members in Hanoi to evaluate the programme so far. The feedback from this meeting was overwhelmingly positive and there was a strong desire to see VTTN continue and grow into the future. We are also very glad to see that VTTN key members are taking an ever more active role in the planning and delivery of network activities. We, too, at the British Council hope that the VTTN programme will continue to support English teachers and teacher trainers.

We have received a lot of letters about the last issue of English Now. We're always delighted to hear your positive comments about the magazine and we hope that this issue does not disappoint you!

As always, the magazine is full of ideas to help you in the classroom. As always, these ideas are practical. As always, these ideas come from other teachers like you.

As well as ideas from the VTTN provincial workshops, there is the usual mix of news and information on how to access a range of resources. On page 9, we have another quiz for you - this will give you the chance to win a super prize. On page 12, we have an article on the new Year 10 textbook. In addition, there is a special report on the Hornby Trust Regional School for teacher trainers which took place in Hanoi last August and on page 13 more fun and games from our very own Mr Bang in Bang On.

Happy Reading and Happy Teaching!
